Husky Triathlon

accommodation

Four hundred metres from the Huskisson strip, and about six minutes on foot to the start line at White Sands Park. Four bedrooms, a pool for afterwards, and somewhere quiet to sleep before a 6.30 start.

The largest long-course festival in the southern hemisphere

Five days of racing based at White Sands Park, a few hundred metres along the foreshore from us. The weekend carries the standard, sprint and super sprint triathlons, aquabike, the ocean swims and the TriKidz aquathon, with the multi-day Husky Ultra running through the week before it.

Several thousand athletes come, and most of them bring people. Huskisson has a few hundred beds. That maths is the reason this page exists.

Husky Ultra opens

A 5.7km swim and 90km ride, then 180km on the bike the following day.

Rest Day

The town fills. Registration opens and the strip starts to feel like race week.

Triathlon Day

Standard, sprint, super sprint and aquabike, plus the Huskisson Ultimate. Early starts and road closures through the middle of town.

Swims, runs and TriKidz

Ocean swims from 500 metres to 5.5 kilometres, the running events, and the children's aquathon in the afternoon.

Confirm the final programme with the organisers — dates and start times shift year to year.

The weekend is decided before the alarm goes off

A 5.15 transition open means a 4.30 breakfast. Doing that in a house with a full kitchen and a table everyone fits around is a different race to doing it in a motel room forty minutes up the highway.

The Beach House takes eight, which is usually an athlete, a partner, two children and a set of grandparents, or two couples racing together. Everybody has a bed and a bathroom, and the kids' retreat keeps the non-racing half of the family occupied while somebody sleeps.

Then there is the pool, which on the Saturday afternoon of race weekend is the most useful thing we own.

Vaulted living room with linen sofa and skylights, Malia Beach House, Huskisson

Courtyard lounge and private infrared sauna, Malia Studio, Huskisson

Things worth

knowing first

Written from a house inside the road closures. Check the organiser's notifications in the week of the race, since the course and the closures are set late.

Race pack collection

Early collection runs on the Saturday afternoon at 36 Owen Street, a few minutes' walk from us. Worth doing rather than queueing on race morning.

The roads close early

Huskisson closes through the middle of town on race mornings. Park at Malia, walk to transition, and do not plan on driving anywhere before midday.

Where the bikes go

The Beach House has undercover storage at ground level, with an outdoor tap for a rinse after the swim leg.

Coffee before transition

Very little opens at four in the morning. There is a Breville machine in the coffee nook, Northern Beaches organic wood-fired coffee, and Love Tea for the tea drinkers.

Pool Heating

March water is usually warm enough straight up, but after a long Saturday it earns its keep. Ask when you book and we will have it warm for you at no extra charge.

Book earlier than feels sensible

Huskisson fills for this weekend six to twelve months out, and the whole-house properties go first. There is no way around that.

Booked here, never
through a platform

What entrants ask us

How far is Malia from the Husky Triathlon start line?

Both residences are 400 metres from the Huskisson main strip, and roughly 6 minutes on foot from White Sands Park — inside the road closure, so you walk rather than drive.

What is the minimum stay for Husky Triathlon weekend?

Three nights. Friday to Monday covers Saturday's triathlons and Sunday's swims and runs, with a bed before and after both race mornings.

Is there somewhere to wash down a bike?

Both residences have external extendable hoses and plenty of space to give bikes a wash down at the front of the property.

Can we park during the Husky Triathlon Road closures?

Each residence has one off-street car space, with free street parking out the front. Park on arrival and leave the car there for the weekend, which matters more on race weekend than any other.

Can we check in late after Saturday racing?

With 24–7 self-check in you can ensure your arrival aligns with your plans. There is no reception desk closing at five, which is the part that matters on race weekend.

Do you take bookings a year ahead for the triathlon?

We open the calendar as soon as the organisers confirm the dates. Email us and we will tell you the day it goes live rather than making you watch for it.
